This years Tyre Industry Conference will be held on 15th October at the Eastside Rooms in Birmingham.
The theme of the conference this year is The Professional Tyre Technician and will take both an internal and external perspective on what makes a tyre technician professional, and some external perspectives on the sector’s challenges and solutions.
The speaker lineup includes, from an internal perspective:
Adam Pay, Managing Director, Halfords Autocentres, will explore why it is vital that our tyre technicians are professional and seen as being professional and what Halfords is doing to address this.
Nick Connor, Chief Executive, Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI), will share some of the marks of professionalism, including qualifications and continuing professional development and some of the work IMI is doing to support recruitment to the automotive sector and drive up professional standards.
Cate Keenan, Marketing Director, UK & IE, Michelin, will give a manufacturer’s perspective on the impact the Tyre Technician has on their products, exploring challenges and opportunities around technicians being kept up to date on the developments in tyres and tyre technology, through selling the right tyre for the right reason at the right time, to the impact of fitting or replacing a tyre. Having worked in Europe and the Americas, Cate will hopefully draw on some global comparisons.
From an external perspective, the conference speaker lineup will include:
John Spragget, Relationship Manager, Strategic Relationship Team, Department for Work and Pensions will look at how DWP and their Jobcentre network can support the sectors recruitment activities and help raise the profile of the tyre professional, which is largely invisible. DWP supports a wide range of job seekers and provides a wide range of support opportunities.
Martin Allen, Senior Trading Standards Officer, Surrey & Buckinghamshire Trading Standards, will provide a Trading Standards perspective of the tyre professional, what commonly goes wrong and what our members can do to prevent this. Also, if things do go wrong, what support can NTDA’s Primary Authority partner provide NTDA members.
We are just finalising the line-up of speakers and will share who will be giving the customer/client perspective on the importance of the tyre professional shortly.
The keynote speaker is Aron Taylor-Smith, a multiple BTCC race winner, 25-time podium finisher and the reigning Independent Champion, now entering his 12th season of the most competitive championship in British Motorsport.
Aron will share his perspective on professionalism, including the importance of tyres in delivering his achievements!
