The Wheelwrights’ Charity

The Worshipful Company of Wheelwrights set up the Wheelwrights’ Charity in 1983.

The main objectives of the Charity are to support:

  • Education and training in the craft of wheelwrights
  • Mobility for disabled people, especially children and young people
  • Access to sport, educational and recreational activities for disabled people, especially children, young people and disabled ex-servicemen and ex-servicewomen
  • City charities and causes including the Lord Mayor’s chosen charities each year and other relevant causes.

The “2020 – Vision for Mobility Appeal”, launched to mark the Wheelwrights’ 350th Anniversary, focused on extending support for disabled athletes to have access to training in sport and Paralympic sport.

To this end, working in association with the NTDA, it forged a new partnership with WheelPower, the British wheelchair sport body based in Stoke Mandeville near Aylesbury the birthplace of the Paralympics, to support the annual Inter Spinal Unit Games and to select promising candidates for further training.

The NTDA raises funding throughout the year, at events such as the NTDA Tyre Industry Golf Day and NTDA Annual Dinner to support the work of the charity.
